Abstract
The purpose of this article is to establish the most important problems of meteorological instrumentation in order to evaluate and to suggest methods of attack. This is to be accomplished by discussing the research recommendations stated or implied by the authors of the Compendium of meteorology (Malone, 1951) and by reviewing progress since its publication.
