Abstract

The pathology chapter in this text is primarily aimed at presenting pertinent diagnostic information to the oncologic management of patients with salivary gland malignancies. Therefore, detailed descriptions of cytomorphologic features of individual entities are briefly presented and lineage-related markers used in differential diagnosis of certain subtypes are highlighted. The role and utilization of fine needle aspiration technology in early classification, differential diagnosis, and follow-up are addressed in the context of their relevance to surgical planning, confirmation of progression and biomarker studies. Current and emerging genetic findings and their potential diagnostic and management implications are discussed.
