Abstract
The development to 2010 of the key New Labour youth policies and their implications for local authority Youth Services and open access youth work—in particular: the move from the Blair ‘Respect’ to the Brown ‘Targeted Support’ agendas; the aims, development and eventual run-down of the Connexions Service; the development and implementation of the Every Child Matters and Aiming High for Young People agendas; the introduction of commissioning and ‘contestability’ for providing youth services; efforts to strengthen the statutory base of local authority Youth Services; and the introduction and implementation of the first Prevent strategies for dealing with Muslim young people’s ‘radicalisation’.
