Abstract
This chapter reviews the scholarship, the context, and the history of Pan-Africanism, in an attempt to shed more light on the concept. One of the major reasons for this misunderstanding rests with the fact that in their attempt to broaden the meaning of such a complex idea, scholars and policymakers have thrown everything African into the basket of Pan-Africanism. This explains, in part, why to date there is still no universally accepted definition of Pan-Africanism. This chapter attempts to integrate the various perspectives on Pan-Africanism.
