Abstract
Dacryodes edulis, African pear is a tropical tree crop that is grossly underutilized. It is known in most parts of West and Central Africa because of its edible oily fruit mesocarp, known as the fruit pulp, which surrounds the hard seed at the center of the fruit. The physical and chemical properties of the edible portion have been widely researched. Also, some research has been done on the properties of the seed, leaf and tree bark exudate. This work reviews the various properties of the different parts of the crop and reveals some of the ways they have been successfully utilized.
