Abstract

This chapter presents the unique contributions of unstructured clinical interviews and history taking to the assessment process. The important domains, behaviors, and variables to be included in such interviews and the rationale for their coverage are discussed. From a developmental perspective, gathering information on the onset, course, impairment, and etiology should be part of this assessment strategy. Suggestions for the efficient administration of unstructured interviews are also provided.
