Abstract

This is an introductory chapter to glass and jamming transitions. We present basic facts as well as recent discoveries, such as dynamical heterogeneities. In the final part we discuss a prominent theoretical approach: the Random First-Order Transition Theory. In order to convey the state of the art and the running debates, we make use both of the usual presentation style of physics papers but also of a dialogue format.
