Abstract

Environmental ethics has to cope with the economic logic of social systems denying the possibility of long-term individual and collective responsibility for nature. In extreme situations such a negative view on the weak influence of democratic values could lead to some kind of ecological dictatorship. Applied ethics suggests practical norms in order to accompany the inevitable ecological change within the democratic framework of a market system.
