Abstract

Outside chemical interference with the sympathetic nervous system through the administration of drugs has resulted in major advances in the therapy of respiratory, cardiovascular, and mental diseases. Agents capable of blocking or enhancing the action of epinephrine and norepinephrine, regulating their biosynthesis or metabolism, influencing their uptake or release from storage sites became valuable tools in the study of the etiology of many pathologic processes and in the elucidation of the various functions of these neurohormones.
