Abstract

This chapter introduces some simple model problems used to give a brief introduction to wave propagation in infinite domains and related problems. Specifically, they will be used to explain the main difficulty when formulating the radiation condition in the time domain. The model problems are as simple as possible but general enough to allow a conclusive discussion. In the following chapters they will be used to investigate some commonly used numerical solutions and some new methods which are the main contribution of this work. A similar collection of example problems for wave propagation can be found in [Gra75].
