Abstract

Samuel Alexander Graham was born in Salisbury (Maryland, USA) on 22 March 1891. He studied at the University of Minnesota where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Forestry in 1914 and a Ph.D. on forest ecology topics in 1921. In the meantime, in 1916, he obtained a Master of Forestry at Cornell University. He remained at the University of Minnesota until 1927 as lecturer and supervisor of an entomological field station of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In those years he collaborated with Chapman, who played an important role in his training and of whom he wrote a biographical note after the latter’s death (GRAHAM 1941).
