Abstract
Learning to read and reading to learn are being reshaped as text moves from paper to digital formats. Writing is also an activity that is increasingly being done on computers and smartphones. However, the theory on how children learn remains constant, regardless of the place where reading and writing occurs. Thus, language and how it relates to reading and writing is examined in this chapter. Through classroom vignettes, new teacher practices and tools used for literacy learning in a digital age are explored.
