Abstract

Analogous setting of Siwaliks in Kumaun and west Nepal; oldest Siwaliks of Nepal; piggyback model and active normal fault; Lower Siwaliks with fine sandstone and mudstone; pepper-and-salt Middle Siwalik sandstones with mudstones; Upper Siwalik conglomerate and Kalena alluvial fan; gravel veneer east of Budar; Siwalik belt as piggyback basin.

I believe that, if we could have been present in Siwalik times—nay, even in Nahan or nummulitic times—we should have seen the Himalayan range in all its might standing up very much as it does now.

—C.S. Middlemiss (1890, p. 5)
