Abstract
With the increasingly competitive focus of youth sports, children and adolescents frequently enter sports at young ages and train in a more systematic fashion than in the past. Overuse injuries are a common consequence of these phenomena. This chapter describes the risk factors associated with these injuries, particularly those unique to the growing child. An approach to the diagnosis and treatment of common overuse injuries is detailed. In addition, high-risk overuse injuries that have the potential to result in long-term consequences are highlighted.
