Abstract
Before joining the Max Planck Insitute in early 1974, I was browsing through the central library of the Nuclear Research Center (KFA) Jülich in December 1973 to get information about the founding directors of the new institute on solid state research in Stuttgart. Some of my collegues at that time were pointing in particular to Manuel Cardona, who was supposedly famous for having published a lot of papers.
