Cryptography Made Simple

Part of the book series: Information Security and Cryptography ((ISC))

Abstract

The first challenge modern cryptography addresses is to actually arrive at a concrete mathematical definition of what it means for a particular cryptographic mechanism to be secure. Whilst we may have a conceptual notion that encryption should be secure as long as the key is not revealed, it is not straightforward to define this precisely. We will also see that modern cryptography is about more than just encryption.
