Abstract

Suppose we perform n independent experiments under identical conditions. If an outcome A results n A times, then the probability that A occurs is

$$\displaystyle\begin{array}{rcl} P(A) =\lim _{n\rightarrow \infty }\frac{n_{A}} {n}.& &{}\end{array}$$
(1.1)

Let \(\mathcal{C}\) be the set of all possible outcomes of a random experiment, then \(\mathcal{C}\) is called the sample space. An outcome is a point or element in the sample space. The sample space can be finite or infinite.
