Abstract
This author vividly remembers assisting his late father in tuning an old portable TV. When the TV was tuned in, we received good reception, but when it was tuned out, all we could make out was a constant hissing noise. Little did we know that what we were listening to was the cosmic background radiation, the ‘afterglow of creation,’ the microwave residual of the primordial fireball that was the hot Big Bang.
