Abstract

Knowledge of normal anatomy and physiology of the oral cavity provides a basis for understanding and recognizing pathology. This chapter provides an overview of surface landmarks and underlying hard and soft tissue anatomy of the oral cavity in the context of diagnosing conditions that are detailed throughout the book. The mucosa, dentition, salivary glands, neurovascular supply, musculature, lymphatic drainage, and temporomandibular joint complex are specifically highlighted.
