Abstract

The ultimate decision to discharge a patient from a short-stay unit is based on the assessment that the goals of admission have been met. In patients with atrial fibrillation, this is focused on adequate rhythm or heart rate management. However, this may also require the management of comorbidities that may have contributed to the exacerbation and poor control of a patient’s atrial fibrillation. This chapter will review existing data around the discharge of patients with atrial fibrillation and provide recommendations that may guide the discharge of these patients.
