Abstract

In the previous chapter, we probed the electron spin polarization by means of resistively detected NMR. It was shown that the resonance lineshape not only depends on the spin polarization but also on the spatial distribution of the electrons inside of the quantum well. This technique can therefore be used more generally to probe the distribution of the electron density in all three spatial dimensions. Due to this local sensitivity, NMR is ideally suited to study the spatial ordering of electrons which is believed to occur in the density-modulated phases introduced in Sect. 2.5.
