Romantic Love in Cultural Contexts

Abstract

This chapter further explores the cultural differences of romantic love, focusing on the perspective of Arabic nations. Although the concept of love in the Middle East and other Arabic regions has been a long-neglected topic among scholars, numerous anthropologists have recognized how love is conceptualized among these people. Through ethnographic studies, it explores the roles of gender, sex, and marriage in defining romantic love. In exploring love in Arabic regions, it utilizes ethnographic studies from the Middle East, Morocco, and Bedouin cultures. In doing so, it highlights the commonalities of the groups of people studied as well as their differences.
