Abstract
The field of mirrorless distributed feedback (DFB) lasing in photonic structures consisting of many layers of chiral liquid crystals has recently attracted much attention, mainly due to the possibilities of reaching a low lasing threshold for DFB lasing. In the present chapter, we discuss an analytical solution of the defect mode associated with insertion of an active defect layer in the perfect cholesteric structure, for light propagating along the helical axis, and we consider some limiting cases simplifying the problem [27].
