Abstract

This paper analyzes regional productivity in the Spanish hotel industry and the influence of regional and management factors on productivity. The study develops a novel approach to hotel productivity by attempting to establish a relationship with regional and management performance variables. In terms of methodology, this study first applies the nonparametric Malmquist technique to microeconomic balanced panel data in order to measure Total Factor Productivity (TFP). Subsequently, two groups of key factors are introduced as possible determinants of the productivity change: regional industry factors and hotel company management factors. The results suggest differences in regional productivity across the sample.
