Abstract
The pituitary gland consists of two parts—the neurohypophysis and adenohypophysis (Wingstrand 1966). The adenohypophysis is the site of synthesis and storage of hormones (Wingstrand 1966). The neurohypophysial core consists of endings of nerve fibers interspersed with cells, termed pituicytes. The pituitary gland is attached to the brain by means of a short pituitary stalk (Fig. 5.16).
