Abstract

Complications and their sequelae are presented from the lead author’s experience with local flap surgery. Incomplete tumour excision is one of these and it is imperative to be sure of complete clearance before repair begins. Common complications include: haematoma, venous outflow ischaemia, partial flap necrosis, total flap necrosis, secondary infection (bacterial or viral), hypertrophic or keloid scarring and displacement of anatomical structures (such as ectropion of the lower eyelid). Clinical examples of these complications are presented and the successful management detailed.
