Abstract

Interactive pervasive environments provide a number of opportunities in the convergence of technical capability, interactive experience and social demand. A wide range of application domains may exploit the benefits provided by such systems. However, some challenges are raised in their design and development. In addition, such systems have profound implications to the different entities involved. An application in the domain of urban mobility is described and a set of design principles is identified that aim at addressing some of these issues. These principles constitute a methodological foundation for practitioners and an evaluation matrix for general applications, as well as a support for the interaction between end-users, governmental agencies and commercial organizations.
