Fundamentals of Anorectal Surgery

Abstract

Understanding of the pathophysiology of hemorrhoidal disease guides treatment selection. The author’s preferred treatment plan is summarized in Table 17.5. A recent meta-analysis of hemorrhoidal treatment modalities supports this approach (MacRae and McLeod, Dis Colon Rectum 38:685–694, 1995). Appropriate treatments provide symptom resolution in a safe and cost effective manner.
