Results and Complications of Femoral Hernia Repair

The Art of Hernia Surgery

Abstract

Despite the incidence of femoral hernia being low, it is the most common cause of strangulation and bowel obstruction requiring urgent operative intervention. Several risk factors have been identified in literature predicting the postoperative outcomes after surgical femoral repair. Wound infection, chronic pain, and recurrence with necessity of re-intervention are the most frequent postoperative complications. Emergency surgery is associated with an increased rate of morbidity and mortality.
