Abstract
Corticosteroids are synthetic analogues of the steroid hormones produced by the adrenal glands. They were first introduced in dermatology by Marion Sulzberger in 1952. Corticosteroids act by producing vasoconstriction, reduction of inflammation, immunosuppression and reduction in mitosis. These are often used for the treatment of cutaneous disorders such as eczema, psoriasis, lichen planus, alopecia and vitiligo.
