Abstract

The surgical management of cleft lip and palate has known several evolutions through time, from merely filling the defect into a complex reconstructive process to recreate the lost architecture of the upper lip. The incorporation of not only the aesthetic but also functional elements into the management of these deformities has increased our awareness of the complexity of the deformity and its lifelong ramifications for these patients.
