Abstract

Formal education, through increasing public school attendance, promoted disease prevention through sanitized environments and physical examinations. Influenced by medical advances, public health policies, and Progressive education ideals, health and maternal education inculcated children, adolescents, and adults with the virtues of good hygiene and health, as well as trust in medicine. The medicalized school would go on to operate as an extension of the research laboratory and assume a central role in immunization.
