Abstract
This chapter introduces the reader to the basic concepts of Digital Preservation and justifies the significance of the topic. Subsequently, it decomposes the problem, and introduces the notion of Digital Preservation Pattern that is used in the next chapters of the book. Finally, it describes the structure of the book and the relationships amongst chapters.
