Zusammenfassung
Das Buch „The Computer and the Brain“ (1958, dt. 1991; im Folgenden wird nach der deutschen Übersetzung zitiert) ist die gedruckte Version der Silliman Lectures, die zu halten John von Neumann 1956 nach Yale eingeladen worden war. Obwohl sie bis zum März 1956 vorbereitet waren, wurden sie nie gehalten, da von Neumann zu dieser Zeit bereits zu krank war, um nach New Haven zu reisen. Der 1903 in Budapest geborene Autor arbeitete bis zu seinem Tod am 8. Februar 1957 an dem Manuskript, dennoch blieb es unvollendet, wie die Witwe Klara von Neumann in ihrem Vorwort der posthumen Edition erklärt. Dennoch kann das Bändchen als vollständiger Aufsatz gelesen werden.
