Informationen an das Programm können beim Start des Programmes in der Kommandozeile als Parameter (Kommandozeilenargumente) übergeben werden wie im folgenden Beispiel:

copy file_a.doc file_b.doc
In diesem Fall ist copy das ausführbare Programm und es erhält 2 Argumente (file_a.doc und file_b.doc). Hierbei soll von der Datei file_a.doc eine Kopie unter dem Namen f ileb. doc angelegt werden.
