In den vorangegangenen Kapiteln 1 bis 7 war erläutert worden, aus welchen Komponenten ein modernes Betriebssystem besteht (Kapitel 1), welche Prinzipien und Techniken bei der Verwaltung der einzelnen Betriebsmittel Anwendung finden (Kapitel 2 bis 6) und in welcher Weise das Leistungsverhalten eines speziellen Betriebssystems an die wachsenden Bedürfnisse verschiedener Anwender angepaßt werden kann (Kapitel 7).
