Zusammenfassung

In den letzten Jahrzehnten ist in der Kognitions- und Erkenntnistheorie ein grundlegender Gegensatz zwischen Realismus und Konstruktivismus konstruiert worden. Dabei wurden beide Positionen auf ein Grundmuster reduziert, das besonnene Vertreter beider Lager stets abgelehnt haben. Danach erschien Realismus als eine Position, die Erkenntnis als eine passive Repräsentation der Realität modellierte, während Konstruktivismus als Doktrin postuliert wurde, die die Existenz von Realität leugnet und davon ausgeht, dass jedes Individuum sich mehr oder weniger willkérlich seine Wirklichkeit konstruiert. Wie so oft waren in diesem Streit die grundlegenden Konzepte ›Repräsentation‹ und ›Konstruktion‹ so wenig geklärt, dass der unfruchtbare Streit eher medienwirksam ausgetragen wurde, als dass er Erkenntnisfortschritte in der Sache erbracht hätte.
