Lange galten die Niederlande als Musterbei spiel für eine tolerante und multikulturelle Gesellschaft. Mit den politisch en Erfolgen des an ti-islamischen Rechtspopulisten Pim Fortuyn begann dieses Bild zu bröckeln, und spätestens durch die gewalttätigen Ausschreitungen nach dem Mord an dem islamkritischen niederländischen Filmemacher Theo van Gogh durch einen niederlän disch-marokkanischen Islamisten ist deutlich geworden, dass sich die Lage in den Niederlanden geändert hat.
