Abstract

For the sake of completeness, reference, and full understanding of the work described in the later chapters, standard (as well as some non-standard) mathematical concepts are given in this chapter. Most of the definitions are well established and can be found in mathematical textbooks on analysis [Roc97], metric theory [BBI01], optimization [Ber95, BS79], and stability theory [Hah67, Vid93, Kha96]. Other definitions are slightly adopted for the framework of this manuscript.
