Epidemiologie und Infektionsweg. Erreger der lymphatischen Filariosen sind Wuchereria bancrofti, Brugia malayi und B. timori. Sie kommen in Süd-und Südostasien vor, wo ca. 80 Mio. Menschen Träger der Erreger sind. Daneben findet sich W. bancrofti auch in zahlreichen feuchtwarmen Endemiegebieten Amerikas und Afrikas einschließlich Nordafrika.
