Abstract

A thin-type traveling wave ultrasonic motor has been designed and fabricated, and the major properties of traveling wave in the stator of the annular ultrasonic motor have been analyzed. It has pointed out that part areas of the annular stator inner circumference surface have the power to drive the rotor. Moreover, the performance test of the stator and the operating experiment of the motor have been accomplished. In the experiment it has been found that the motor can operate normally even with single-phase voltage. To above mentioned phenomenon, the paper discusses the tooth motion of the inner surface on the annular stator in bend mode and distinguishes the different effects of normal motion and radial motion of the tooth and analyzes the drive action of the six teeth of the stator inner surface to the rotor during one period. On the basis of the analysis, a thin-type standing wave ultrasonic motor can be designed and made further.
