Abstract

The significance of microtechnology has increased seriously within the last years. Recent studies forecast a market volume of 25 bn$ in 2009.1 Microproducts open up new applications in several industrial and consumer areas. Mobile phones, PDAs, laptops, digital cameras would not have been possible with a significant decrease of the size of the components and also higher integration. Other fields of miniaturized products can be found in sensor industry, medical devices, and various products from automotive industry. Production and machining of micro parts were in the past mainly made by technologies developed from the electronic industry, which are particularly based on silicon etching technologies for the production of, e.g., sensor elements.
