Zusammenfassung

Das exzessive Schreien des Säuglings in den ersten Lebensmonaten bedeutet für Eltern und Kind meist eine hohe Belastung. In vielen Fällen ist die Symptomatik selbstlimitierend und zeigt keine nachhaltigen Folgen für die weitere Entwicklung des Kindes und die Beziehung der Eltern zu ihrem Baby. In klinischen Stichproben zeigte sich jedoch, dass das Schreien in bis zu 60 % der Fälle während der ersten Lebensmonate eskaliert, über den ersten Entwicklungsschub hinaus bestehen bleibt, auf weitere Bereiche der Verhaltensregulation übergreift und schließlich, insbesondere in Familien mit geringen psychosozialen Ressourcen, zu einem erhöhten Risiko für die weitere kognitive und sozial-emotionale Entwicklung des Kindes beiträgt. Der folgende Beitrag zeigt Möglichkeiten der Diagnostik und frühzeitigen Hilfestellung für Eltern und Kind auf.
