Abstract

In the UK, Nuclear Medicine has long lingered as a Cinderella medical speciality. Here is not the place too discuss the origins and the effects of this development, these are manifold and significant. They contrast with the more rapid development of Nuclear Medicine in Europe (see Table) But the reader can find similar areas of contrast in other fields of medicine – whilst the UK is justly proud for its Nobel laureates G Hounsfield and P Mansfield for their invention of the X-RAY CT scanner and the MRI instrument respectively, for decades the UK has fallen behind in terms of the application of imaging technologies for the benefit of patients. Nothing new here. So what could be done?
