Abstract
This paper emphasizes the practical aspect of the maximum surface potential of contact lens materials. The phenomenon of back discharges (back corona) was described, and the possibility of generating these discharges on polymeric PMMA and HEMA was practically confirmed. The charged gathered on surfaces of polymer grains (PMMA), dispersed in the lens care liquids, attracts the ions of opposite signs from the water solution, which results in lowering the electric field with the distance from the surfaces. A characteristic dipole layer is created and consequently a electrokinetic’s potential appears.
