Abstract

The input to surveillance systems is data in which patterns are identified that provide hints to abnormal or aberrant behaviour. Depending on the application domain and surveillance task, surveillance systems collect this input from various information sources. In this chapter, an overview on possible sources of information is given. Collected data can be structured or unstructured. This book focusses on the processing and surveillance based on unstructured data. For completeness reasons, a brief overview on sources for structured data is provided in this section.
