Abstract
Even though many applications over wireless ad-hoc networks require IP-based services, the local repair process of Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) protocol is not well-evaluated when it operates with IP stacks. To clarify the local repair process over IP-based ad-hoc networks, this paper performs comparative studies on the performances of networks using local repair to that not using the local repair by the extensive simulations. As results, it is clarified that the network performances with the local repair are worse than that without it because of the loss of messages of address resolution protocol (ARP). The loss causes the failure of the local repair process, and as a consequence, it restarts the local repair process after long waiting time which degrades the networks’ performances.
