Zusammenfassung

Die Hepatitis E ist eine infektiöse Leberentzündung, die durch das Hepatitis-E-Virus (HEV), ein 7,5 kb großes Plusstrang-RNA-Virus, ausgelöst wird. Während diese Erkrankung früher als reine Tropenkrankheit galt, wurden in den letzten Jahren zunehmend Fälle von Hepatitis E beobachtet, die in Industrienationen autochthon, d. h. dort erworben, auftreten (Wedemeyer et al. 2012).
