Aufgaben und Bedeutung der Tumorzentren für die interdisziplinäre Tumortherapie

Summary

Early diagnosis, therapy and follow-up of tumor patients rest on the three pillars of medical care: tumor centers, hospitals and physicans. The tumor centers are the pace makers and coordinators in the following functions:

• definition of primary treatment and additional therapies and their standard of quality;

• implementation of primary multimodal therapies and treatment of rare tumors;

• development of improved treatment methods for tumor metastases and local recurrence, including surgical treatment;

• improvement of diagnostic and therapeutic (surgical) potential through interdisciplinary research, especially in the fields of tumor biology and tumor immunology; and

• establishment of a standardized follow-up and new care and treatment strategies for the improvement of the patients’ quality of life.

Zusammenfassung

Die (Früh-)Diagnostik, Therapie und Nachsorge von Tumorpatienten beruht auf den drei Säulen medizinischer Versorgung: den Tumorzentren, den regionalen und städtischen Krankenhäusern und den niedergelassenen Ärzten. Den Tumorzentren fällt hierbei die Schrittmacher- und Koordinationsfunktion zu, die sich auf folgende Aufgabenbereiche bezieht:

• Definition des Standards von Primärbehandlung und Zusatztherapie und deren Qualitätssicherung.

• Durchführung primär multimodaler Therapie und Behandlung seltener Tumorentitäten.

• Entwicklung kurativer Therapieverfahren bei metastasierten Tumoren oder beim Tumorrezidiv unter Einbeziehung auch operativer Maßnahmen.

• Verbesserung der diagnostischen und therapeutischen (operativen) Möglichkeiten durch interdisziplinäre Forschung vor allem auf den Gebieten der Tumorbiologie und Tumor-Immunologie.

• Sicherstellung einer einheitlichen Tumornachsorge und Etablierung neuer Versor-gungs- und Behandlungskonzepte nicht zuletzt auch unter dem Aspekt einer verbesserten Lebensqualität für den Patienten.
