Abstract
This paper discusses whether the Extended Linear Expenditure System (ELES) is able to analyze the pattern of demand in the Jiangsu province of China, based on the household budget surveys of rural and urban areas in the Jiangsu province from 1980 to 1990. During this period, the economy of Jiangsu province grew rapidly and went through two economic waves.
